| Customer Reviews: Kaleidoscope Eyes April 9, 2010 Dr. Delvis Memphistopheles (London) To not enjoy this book, I would tentatively suggest, you are either dead from the neck upwards or alternatively, dead from the neck downwards. The collection of images contained within this book work on both levels, the headspace and the body. Whilst porn travels south and most modern art travels north this conjoins the regions to create a vision
Michelle's subtle collation has been to create a narrative of pop surrealism/lowbrow/femmes seductive, whatever you wish to call the new renaissance within a history of art.
For me it brought together those I knew, those I thought I knew and those I knew not at all.
The colour plate reproductions transcend the title. It is the lure with the one fingered beckoning salute into the red light tent of finely honed angels where opium clouds envelope the senses from the bongs of eternal delight. Music from David Rose, the Burlesque Beats strip the atmosphere of affected adornment. The grinding rumble of Evo V's vibrate the windows followed by supercharged V12's, dangling with shrunken heads.
You can dive in and out of the imagery as it fuses into multi hued colours of positivity tinged with the absurd derangement of world yet to be born.
After becoming visually addicted try the websites and books of the artists as other galaxies await.
Arbitrary, yet enjoyable March 2, 2009 Wolf Kettler (England) As a photographer, who also offers nude portraits to his clients, I am confronted with the issue of eroticism on an almost daily basis. "Ars Erotica: The Best Modern Erotic Art" showcases the work of a number of artists from different periods. Print quality is as you would expect it from a glossy, high volume print run.
There is a short write-up about every artist featured. Well researched, I believe, and very useful for the names, with which I was not already familiar.
Introductory notes are equally well researched but not given enough space to provide much information. Then again, this is not a text book.
The selection of artists seems a little arbitrary, which means that the book does not feel very representative of the genre. The selection of the specific works by Klimt and Schiele is disappointing within the concept of the book.
Nevertheless, this book is very enjoyable and probably a good visual resource for the novice to this subject.

I agree with the previous reviewer.... this is a fabulous showcase of modern erotic artists... and Julian Murphy is particularly noteworthy.... so clever! This book is a must for all serious erotic art fans.
One of the best! February 5, 2006 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a great collection put together by Michelle Olley. Great art, great artists and very entertaining. Love the general feel of how this book is brought together. Love Julian Murphy's work and Giger's especially.
